Wilderness Canoeing

Le Voyage Nouveau

First time Menogyn campers will love this great introductory trip.  Eight and eleven day sessions are available. Learn the basics of wilderness canoe tripping during a 5-8 day trip canoeing in the Boundary Waters.  Groups travel an average of 5-8 miles, and carry their packs and canoes across 3-5 portages per day.

Esprit d'Amitie

Campers will build on their previous wilderness travel and camping skills during this session.  Spend 11-12 days paddling in the Boundary Waters, traveling up to 100 miles and traversing many portages.  Sign up for a special session this year and build your own canoe paddle to take on trail.

Esprit with Paddle Building

The paddle building option for the 14-day canoe trip.  These special Esprit sessions will include an extra day in camp where campers will have the opportunity to build their own canoe paddle.  They will carve a basswood paddle using a spoke-shave, hand plane, and a shaving horse.  Our canoe-master and specially trained staff will guide the paddlemaking.  Please call Mo at 763-230-9310 with questions.

Joie de Travail

During this 21-Day session campers build their expedition canoeing skills as they paddle and portage through the rugged Quetico Provincial Park, Ontario. Many groups choose to finish with the 8.5 mile Grand Portage. The Quetico presents a more remote and less traveled region of the boundary waters. Previous wilderness experience is required for these sessions. Note: A Passport will be required for all Quetico participants in 2009.

Wilderness Backpacking

Voyage Nouveau Superior Hiking Trail

Learn the basics of well-planned wilderness backpacking during six days on the Superior hiking Trail overlooking Lake Superior. Groups will hike well-maintained trails in the beautiful NorthWoods and camp at designated sites.

Voyage Nouveau Isle Royale

Enjoy 8 days backpacking on beautiful Isle Royale National Park, an island on Lake Superior. Backpackers take a three hour ferry from Grand Portage, MN and hike established trails. Isle Royale campers often see moose and fox and even hear wolves.

Joie de Travail

Hike deep into the backcountry of Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming for 14-15 days. Trails lead through mixed alpine and forest terrain and elevations up to 10,000 feet. Campers learn expedition style skills for remote travel in the backcountry. Previous wilderness camping experience/application is required if not an invited previous Menogyn camper.

Rock Climbing

Voyage Nouveau

On this great introduction to rock Climbing Trip, campers spend 5-6 days climbing at Seagull Palisade in the BWCA or along the Superior Hiking trail. Campers learn basic required skills including a variety of knot-tying, belaying and climbing techniques.

Canoeing/Rock Climbing Combo

Get an excellent taste of wilderness canoeing and rock climbing on this combined trip. Campers split their time between paddling and portaging in the BWCA and climbing and base camping on Seagull Lake as they learn the skills required for both adventures.

Esprit d' Amitie

Build your backpacking and climbing skills as you spend 12 - 13 days climbing and hiking at four to five different sites along the Superior Hiking Trail. Previous experience is not necessary, but basic knowledge of climbing is very helpful.
